What paperwork do I need to arrange a direct cremation?
After you have registered the death, they will work with you to gather the required paperwork for the cremation to go ahead. A direct cremation is the least expensive type of cremation: while their basic cremation service costs £1,195, the average cost for a standard cremation booked through Beyond’s price comparison tool is around £2,773 and for burial is £3,058.
What will happen with my loved one’s ashes?
They will personally hand-deliver your loved one’s ashes to you within 21 days of the cremation taking place. If you prefer, they can scatter the ashes in a Garden of Remembrance instead, for no additional charge. If you need the ashes sooner or delivered at a specific time, please let them know and they will do their best to make it happen.
What can you put in a coffin for a cremation?
Cards, letters, and photographs are usually fine, but it’s best to ask the crematorium about any other items. Synthetic clothing, shoes with rubber soles, and soft toys are usually not allowed, as well as hollow items like bottles, containers, and (as is traditional in some communities) coconuts, which explode. Items with a battery in, like mobile phones, should also be taken out of the coffin before cremation.
