Farrar & Tanner engraves in house and advertises same day engraving and dispatch, so personalising a gift doesn't have to slow it down. Standard delivery takes five to ten days and is free above a minimum spend, express takes one to three days, and next day delivery covers most of mainland Britain if you order before the early afternoon cut off. Bladed items such as knives and multi tools cost a little more to send and are age restricted. The Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland get Royal Mail options rather than next day, and you can also collect from the Cheltenham showroom for free.
Returns are free in the UK within 60 days. Non personalised items can go back for a refund or exchange if they're unused and in their original packaging, while personalised items can be exchanged or credited to your account if you're unhappy with the engraving. Every return has to be booked through the returns portal first; after that, Royal Mail can collect from your door, or you can drop the parcel at a Post Office with or without a printer. Faults in the first 60 days follow the same process, and after that claims go to the manufacturer under its own warranty.
Most products on the site have a Personalise button. Choose where the engraving should go, type your message, pick a font and add the personalisation before the item goes in your basket. Depending on the product, the workshop can engrave, emboss, embroider or laser mark it, and the engraving gallery on the site shows finished pieces if you need ideas for wording.
Because personalised gifts can only be exchanged or credited rather than refunded, it's worth checking names, spellings and dates carefully before you order. Farrar & Tanner may decline wording it considers offensive, in which case it offers you the chance to change the text or a full refund.
You can also add gift wrap with a handwritten tag and have the parcel sent straight to the recipient, which is useful for birthdays, weddings and anniversaries when you won't be there to hand it over yourself.
