How can I make a reservation?
You can either use this website's booking form or contact the nearest agent from African Trails's contact page. To reserve a place, please fill out African Trails's booking form and pay a deposit. Payment in full is needed 60 days before travel. You must have travel insurance to travel with African Trails. You are not required to pay using a credit card. You can use a check/draft, a bank transfer, or an internet transaction.
Because African Trails don't charge a premium for other currencies, you may book African Trails's tours from anywhere in the world and be confident that you'll get the best price. When you book and pay online, your payment is instantly converted to UK pricing at the current exchange rate.

What else must I pay for including Local Payments?
African Trails require the local payment as they are unable to reliably transfer foreign currency required to operate the tour. So they ask for a part of your tour payment to be paid on the first day, directly to your tour leader. The Local Payment is not a Food Kitty. Whilst it does pay for the food as per itinerary, it also covers; camping accommodation costs, local tolls and taxes and other payments required to make the tour run successfully. It is administered by the tour leader and is not refundable.
Can I use my Credit Card whilst on the trip?
Bring two credit cards; just in case one stops working or gets swallowed by the cash machine. There are quite a few places where you can draw out local money. But take care as your card can easily be stopped with the unusual use abroad (as a bank security measure). This means you may have to get on the phone home to get it unlocked. As a precaution, before travelling ring your bank and tell them where you are going and when you will be away.
Who is in charge of my visas?
You are responsible for obtaining your own visas, many of which can be obtained at the time of travel at the border. Your driver will assist you on the day, however, if you have any questions, please call us or go to the Visa and Embassy information link on the Links page.
Can I book through a Travel Agent?
It’s normally simpler to book direct, information is more correct and you know your trip is booked. You can book from anywhere in the world.
How do I redeem the discount code?

Why isn't my discount code valid?

Are there optional extracurricular activities?
These are optional activities that you can participate in while on the tour but are not included in the tour cost because they are not mandatory. These are booked and paid for on the trip, with US$ cash being the preferred method of payment. You can pay with a credit card in Southern Africa.
How does one spend their money daily?
African Trails also propose a daily spending budget of about US$ 35 per person to cover items such as bottled water, refreshments, souvenirs, and drinks.
Is each voyage run independently, or will passengers be able to hop on and off as they please?
Basically, African Trails have one truck that does a whole ten-week trip every few weeks. This tour is then subdivided into all of the different trips available. Because not everyone can afford to take ten weeks off work (if only! ), this allows folks to come in and work on a few parts at a time. This also means a more diversified and integrated set of people on your truck, as well as new faces.
Is it possible to charge equipment batteries in an overland truck or at a campsite?
Though you can charge the truck, African Trails don't recommend it because it relies on a 24-volt system, which reduces the battery life. Almost every campsite has a charging station.
What is the maximum number of times I can email home?
The majority of towns have internet cafés, and some campgrounds provide email services. As a result, you can send emails every day or once a week.
In which currencies should I bring my travellers' checks?
There are none because they are nearly hard to cash.
What kind of weather can I expect on my overland trip?
The best thing to do is pick on the vacation you want to take and the time of year, then go to African Trails's links page and look up the weather website to get an idea. But, even in Africa, it can get cold at night, so bring a sweater!
Is insurance required for overland tours?
It is necessary to purchase travel insurance. African Trails can rightly put you when it comes to insurance, but African Trails can't sell it to you. You'll need travel insurance that covers medical, baggage, repatriation, and currency exchange. Keep in mind that while purchasing insurance, the most critical considerations are medical and repatriation coverage.
What language do the tours take place in?
If you don't know English at the start of the tour, you will by the end.

The day starts early in Africa Overland, at 6 a.m. in the tropics
On a safari truck, you may experience life to the fullest. Everyone takes down their tent, wraps up their sleeping bag, and stows their luggage on the truck while the kitchen crew puts out the meal. African Trails wash up and pack up after breakfast, which usually consists of tea, coffee, cereal, and the occasional cooked breakfast like pancakes, and attempt to be on the road by 8 a.m. Of course, there are days when African Trails leave early and days when African Trails sleep in.
Days on the road can range from 100 to 600 kilometres
There are days when African Trails don't go anyplace, such as Zanzibar, Lake Malawi, Victoria Falls, and Swakopmund. Lunch is usually served at midday, and African Trails stop at little eateries so you may sample the local cuisine; if there is nothing available on the route, African Trails eat from the truck.
Traveling life
Each day is unique, which is half the fun of Overlanding. Much depends on where you are — you could be relaxing by Lake Malawi or travelling down a dusty road with bumps and potholes, attempting to read a book but not being able to keep it still long enough.
In Africa, no matter how you spend your day, the evening comes soon
It's preferable to set up camp long before dark because the sun sets at 6 p.m. and it's dark in 30 minutes. Stretch, take a break from gazing out the window or putting down the book you've been trying to read, and then descend from the overland vehicle. If you're not cooking that night (you take turns cooking as a group, so you'll probably cook once a week), you'll start looking for a nice spot to pitch your tent.
Dome tents are simple to erect
On African Trails's East African travels, African Trails supply sleeping mats that are significantly superior to camping mats and are, by all accounts, extremely comfortable.
