What is the Reality Show Love Island?

The reality show Love Island is a British dating show that first aired in 2005 as Celebrity Love Island. It was revived in 2015 as ‘Love Island’ and since then, has taken the world by storm. The Love Island contestants have not been revealed yet but will be any day now.

How exactly does Love Island work? As mentioned before, a group of singles looking for love are placed together in a villa without any contact with the outside world for the time they are there. Here is a breakdown of how the series works:

• An equal number of men and women enter the Love Island villa on day 1 and are given the opportunity to pair up with their partner of choice.
• These pairs stay together until recoupling, which is when the couples decide if they want to remain paired or find new partners.
• If someone finds themselves without a partner after the recoupling, they risk being removed.
• Viewers can also vote for contestants they think should be removed or couples that deserve a treat such as a date.
• New singles are also introduced and couples are separated, with some being sent off to Casa Amor, a different villa. This introduction of new singles and couples being divided builds and tests their trust in each other.
• The ultimate goal of the show is to find love, however, the couple with the most public votes by the season finale will be crowned the Love Island winners and win a cash prize.
