HERD is a superlatively soft British knitwear brand using fleeces from Bluefaced Leicester sheep, bought directly from farmers and made within 150 miles of the sheep farms in N.W. England. Their yarn is processed without chemicals, using organic detergents, plant dyes, and water. HERD mission is to make beautiful, sustainable knitwear, to revive and re-energise the traditions of sheep farming for wool in England, and to do so locally and naturally.
They pledge to use only natural, non-toxic cleaning and colouring agents on their wool, making it totally circular. Their buttons are created in England from tagua nuts, a tree whose survival depends on the biodiversity of the rainforest. As a result, the nut's high market value avoids the destruction of the Amazonian rainforest.
